Auli is one of those rare places that quietly earns a loyal following. Many travelers discover it through word of mouth, and once they visit, it’s easy to see why. Perched at an altitude of around 2,519 meters, Auli offers uninterrupted views of some of India’s highest peaks, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, and Mana Peak. It’s one of the few destinations in India where you can ski with such a dramatic Himalayan backdrop.

During the winter months, especially from January to March, Auli transforms into a skiing paradise. The slopes are covered in fresh snow with a natural gradient that suits both beginners and experienced skiers. For newcomers, the lower slopes provide a comfortable learning space, while the more advanced sections offer a thrilling challenge. One of the highlights is the ropeway ride from Joshimath, stretching nearly 4 kilometers. The journey itself is unforgettable, with sweeping valley views on one side and towering peaks on the other.

Beyond winter, Auli takes on a completely different charm. The snow melts into lush green meadows, creating a peaceful retreat with the same stunning views but far fewer crowds. It’s an ideal escape for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility.

Often overlooked, Joshimath deserves a pause in your itinerary. Home to the sacred Narsingh Temple and the historic Shankaracharya Math, the town adds cultural depth to the journey. The drive from Rishikesh through the Alaknanda valley is long but incredibly scenic—an experience in itself, not just a route to the destination.
